Pregabalin is an anticonvulsant and analgesic medication that binds to calcium channels in the central nervous system. By binding to the α2-δ subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels, Pregabalin modulates the release of neurotransmitters, including glutamate, norepinephrine, and substance P, which are involved in pain signaling. This mechanism of action is believed to contribute to Pregabalin's efficacy in managing neuropathic pain, epilepsy, and generalized anxiety disorder.
