AZITHROMYCIN 500 MG

Azithromycin 500mg is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. It is a macrolide-type antibiotic. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.This medication will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness. Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily with or without food. You may take this medication with food if stomach upset occurs. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. For the best effect, take this antibiotic at evenly spaced times. To help you remember, take this medication at the same time(s) every day.

Azithromycin 500mg is indicated for the treatment of patients with mild to moderate infections Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis in adults ? Acute bacterial sinusitis in adults ? Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections in adults ? Urethritis and cervicitis in adults ? Genital ulcer disease in men ? Acute otitis media in pediatric patients (6 months of age and older) ? Community-acquired pneumonia in adults and pediatric patients (6 months of age and older) ? Pharyngitis/tonsillitis in adults and pediatric patients (2 years of age and older)

The tablets and immediate-release suspension can be taken with or without food 500 mg once daily for 3 days ,as directed by the physician

Store between 15 and 30 degrees C

Azithromycin binds to the 23S rRNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, thus interfering with microbial protein synthesis

Treatment-related side effects : Gastrointestinal: dry mouth, esophagitis, gastroenteritis, vaginitis onjunctivitis dizziness pruritus

Azithromycin should not be used in patients with pneumonia who are judged to be inappropriate for oral therapy because of moderate to severe illness or risk factors.

Patients using oral tablets and regular suspension to avoid concomitant use of aluminum or magnesium-containing antacids.
