ATENOLOL 50 MG

ATENOLOL 50 MGis indicated in the management of hypertension. It may be used alone or concomitantly with other antihypertensive agents, particularly with a thiazide-type diuretic. ATENOLOL 50 MG is indicated for the long-term management of patients with angina pectoris. ATENOLOL 50 MG is indicated in the management of hemodynamically stable patients with definite or suspected acute myocardial infarction to reduce cardiovascular mortality.

Patient should take drug on an empty stomach. Instruct patient to take a missed dose as soon as possible, but if next dose is in less than 8 h, skip the missed dose.

Store at controlled room temperature, between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Protect from light.

Most adverse effects have been mild and transient. Bradyarrhythmia. Cold extremity. Hypotension. Dizziness. Depression. Fatigue.

ATENOLOL 50 MG is contraindicated in sinus bradycardia, heart block greater than first degree, cardiogenic shock, and overt cardiac failure.

Cardiovascular: Cardiac failure may occur even in patients without history of cardiac failure; discontinuation may be necessary. Cardiovascular: Peripheral vascular disease may be aggravated Concomitant Use: Withdrawal of concomitant clonidine therapy; atenolol may increase risk of rebound hypertension and should be discontinued several days before clonidine is withdrawn. Endocrine and Metabolic: Diabetes mellitus; may mask symptoms of hypoglycemia (eg, tachycardia) Endocrine and Metabolic: Hyperthyroidism; symptoms such as tachycardia may be masked and abrupt withdrawal may precipitate thyroid storm Drug may mask symptoms of hypoglycemia. Advise diabetic patients to carefully follow blood sugar levels. Advise: patients against sudden discontinuation of drug especially when being treated for angina. Abrupt withdrawal may cause rebound angina.
