Introduction :

Benidipine may cause some side effects like headache, tiredness, swelling of hands and feet, rash, sensitivity to light, increased heart rate, etc. Inform your doctor if any of the side effects become severe or persist for a long time. Inform your doctor immediately if you experience a loss of appetite and discolouration of your skin or eyes. This medicine may cause lightheadedness, dizziness in some people. Hence, do not drive vehicles or operate machines after taking this medicine. Benidipine should be taken with food to avoid stomach discomfort. The dose will be decided by your doctor depending on your blood pressure level. Take this medicine at the same time every day to maintain a constant level in the blood. It is a long-term treatment hence, do not stop the medicine without consulting your doctor. Stopping this medicine abruptly can cause unwanted side effects or a sudden increase in your blood pressure. ?Avoid consuming grapefruit juice with this medicine as it can cause side effects. Benidipine 8mg is a synthetic dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker used to treat hypertension and angina pectoris.

Indication :

Benidipine 8mg is a medicine that is used for the management of hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (a type of chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart). It promotes the relaxation of blood vessels which decreases blood pressure and strain on the heart.

Administration :

Benidipine 8mg can be taken with or without food. Do not crush, break or chew the tablet. The dose prescribed is based on your situation, so avoid taking more or less than the amount prescribed by your doctor. This medicine is intended for long term treatment. Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor as it can cause severe adverse effects.

Storage :

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep from freezing. Keep out of the reach of children.

Driving or operating machinery Using Benidipine may cause symptoms such as blurred vision, lightheadedness and dizziness. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving vehicles or operating machines if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine. Use in elderly Benidipine should be used with caution in old people due to the increased risk of very low blood pressure. Your blood pressure needs to be monitored regularly while using this medicine. Your doctor will start the treatment at low doses and increase the dose based on the response.

Mechanism of Action :

Benidipine is a tripe calcium channel inhibitor by inhibiting L, N and T type calcium channel.4 It presents a very long-lasting activity that can be explained by its high affinity for cell membranes from the DHP binding site; this characteristic indicated a long-lasting pharmacological activity of benidipine. The additional property of benidipine is the vascular selectivity towards peripheral blood vessels.2
