Introduction :

Gliclazide 30 mg ER (Extended-Release) is a sulfonylurea antidiabetic medication. It is an oral hypoglycaemic medicine (blood sugar lowering drug). Gliclazide 30 mg ER Tablet are used to keep blood sugar at the correct level in adults with non-insulin dependent diabetes (type 2) when it is not controlled by diet, physical exercise and weight loss alone Gliclazide is primarily used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to control blood sugar levels.

Indication :

Gliclazide 30 mg ER Tablet is a medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It belongs to a group of medicines called sulfonylureas and helps control blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. This helps to prevent serious complications of diabetes like kidney damage and blindness.

Administration :

Tablets are for oral use. Take your tablet(s) with a glass of water (and preferably at the same time each day). Swallow your tablets whole. Do not chew them. You must always eat a meal after taking your tablet(s). The typical dosage of Gliclazide ER may vary based on individual patient factors such as glycemic control, renal function, and response to treatment. It is usually taken orally once daily with breakfast or as directed by a healthcare professional.

Side Effects :

Skin reactions such as rash, redness, itching, hives, angioedema, breathing difficulty, stomach upset

Contraindications :

Do not take these Tablets if you: ? are allergic to Gliclazide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, to other medicines of the same group (sulfonylureas), to other related medicines (hypoglycaemic sulphonamides) ? have insulin-dependent diabetes (type 1) ? suffer from severe kidney or liver disease ? have ketone bodies and sugar in your urine (this may mean you have keto-acidosis) ? suffer from a diabetic pre-coma and coma ? are taking miconazole (a treatment for fungal infections) (see section ? are breast-feeding (see Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility)

Safety Advice / Warnings :

Gliclazide ER should be used with caution in elderly patients, as they may be more susceptible to hypoglycemia and other adverse effects. Patients should be advised to avoid excessive alcohol consumption while taking Gliclazide ER, as alcohol may potentiate the risk of hypoglycemia. Its essential for patients to adhere to a regular meal schedule and monitor blood sugar levels closely while taking Gliclazide ER to minimize the risk of hypoglycemia. Tablets are not recommended for use during pregnancy. If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine. You must not take this medicine while you are breast-feeding Drinking alcohol is not recommended as it can alter the control of your diabetes in an unpredictable manner

Mechanism of Action :
