LINAGLIPTIN 5 MG

Introduction :

Linagliptin 5mg tablet is used together with proper diet and exercise to treat high blood sugar levels caused by type 2 diabetes mellitus. Linagliptin 5mg tablet helps to control blood sugar levels by increasing substances in the body that make the pancreas release more insulin. It also signals the liver to stop producing sugar (glucose) when there is too much sugar in the blood. This medicine does not help patients who have insulin-dependent or type 1 diabetes mellitus. This medicine is available only with your doctors prescription.

Indication :

Linagliptin 5mg tablet is used with a proper diet and exercise program and possibly with other medications to control high blood sugar. It is used by people with type 2 diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke.Linagliptin is a diabetes drug that works by increasing levels of natural substances called incretins. Incretins help to control blood sugar by increasing insulin release, especially after a meal. They also decrease the amount of sugar your liver makes.

Administration :

You may take this medicine with or without food. Carefully follow the special meal plan your doctor gave you. This is the most important part of controlling your diabetes, and is necessary if the medicine is to work properly. Exercise regularly and test for sugar in your blood or urine as directed.

Storage :

Store the medicine at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

Mechanism of Action :

Linagliptin inhibits the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), which is responsible for the rapid breakdown of incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By inhibiting DPP-4, linagliptin prolongs the action of these incretins, leading to increased insulin secretion and decreased glucagon release, which helps lower blood sugar levels.
