THYROXINE SODIUM 100 MCG

Introduction :

Thyroxine Sodium 100mcg is used to treat hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. This medicine is also used to help decrease the size of enlarged thyroid glands (also called a goiter). Thyroxine Sodium 100mcg belongs to a class of medications called hormones. It works by replacing thyroid hormone that is normally produced by the body. Without thyroid hormone, your body cannot function properly, which may result in poor growth, slow speech, lack of energy, excessive tiredness, constipation, weight gain, hair loss, dry, thick skin, increased sensitivity to cold, joint and muscle pain, heavy or irregular menstrual periods, and depression. When taken correctly, Thyroxine Sodium reverses these symptoms. This medicine is available only with your doctors prescription.

Indication :

Hypothyroidism: Used for the treatment of an underactive thyroid gland, a condition known as hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine is a synthetic version of thyroxine. You take Thyroxine Sodium 100mcg tablets to replace the thyroxine that your thyroid gland cannot produce and prevent the symptoms of hypothyroidism.

Administration :

Take the capsule or tablet in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 to 60 minutes before eating breakfast. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not cut, chew, or crush it.

Storage :

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

Mechanism of Action :

Thyroid hormones exert their physiologic actions through control of DNA transcription and protein synthesis. Triiodothyronine (T3) and Thyroxine Sodium (T4) diffuse into the cell nucleus and bind to thyroid receptor proteins attached to DNA. This hormone nuclear receptor complex activates gene transcription and synthesis of messenger RNA and cytoplasmic proteins. The physiological actions of thyroid hormones are produced predominantly by T3, the majority of which (approximately 80%) is derived from T4 by deiodination in peripheral tissues
