Mechanism of Dupamac 200 Ml Oral Solution
Lactulose is a non-absorbable synthetic disaccharide that reaches the colon unchanged, where intestinal bacteria ferment it into organic acids. These acids increase osmotic pressure, drawing water into the bowel to soften stools and stimulate bowel movements. In hepatic encephalopathy, the acidic environment converts ammonia (NH₃) into ammonium (NH₄⁺), reducing its absorption into the bloodstream and promoting its elimination through the stool.
