Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin that exerts bactericidal activity by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanate irreversibly inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes, protecting cefpodoxime from hydrolysis and extending its spectrum against beta-lactamase–producing organisms. Potassium Clavulanate: It is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that helps overcome bacterial resistance to amoxicillin by protecting it from degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by certain bacteria. Potassium clavulanate does not possess antibacterial activity on its own but enhances the activity of amoxicillin against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria.
