Ramipril 5mg is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Ramipril is also used to improve survival after a heart attack. It may also be used in high risk patients (such as patients with heart disease/diabetes) to help prevent heart attacks and strokes. This medication may also be used to treat heart failure in patients who have had a recent heart attack.Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor and works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily.

Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily. Tablet is usually swallowed whole. If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep out of the reach of children.

Patient should avoid activities requiring mental alertness or coordination until drug effects are realized, as drug may cause dizziness. Advise patient to rise slowly from a sitting or lying position. Patient should avoid using potassium-containing supplements or salts while taking this drug.
