Losartan 50 Mg & Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 Mg tablet is primarily prescribed for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults. It is particularly beneficial for individuals whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy or who require combination therapy to achieve target blood pressure levels. Losartan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and to help protect the kidneys from damage due to diabetes. It is also used to lower the risk of strokes in patients with high blood pressure and an enlarged heart. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that helps to remove excess salt and water from the body, reducing blood volume and lowering blood pressure.

This medicine may be taken with or without food. In addition to taking this medicine, treatment for your high blood pressure may include weight control and a change in the foods you eat, especially foods high in sodium (salt). Your doctor will tell you which of these are most important for you.

These conditions may cause you to lose too much water or salt and lead to low blood pressure. You can also lose water by sweating, so drink plenty of water during exercise or in hot weather. Severe, chronic diarrhea with weight loss may develop months to years after taking this medicine. Tell your doctor right away if you have these symptoms. Check with your doctor right away if blurred vision, difficulty with reading, eye pain, or any other vision change occurs with this medicine. This could be a sign of a serious eye problem. This medicine may affect blood sugar levels. Diabetic patients may notice a change in the results of blood or urine sugar tests. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions.

Mechanism of Losartan Potassium 50 Mg + Hyrdrochlorthiazide 12.5 Mg Tablet
Losartan is an orally active, nonpeptide angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), selective for the AT1 receptor. It blocks the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor subtype in many tissues (eg, vascular smooth muscle, adrenal gland). It has no agonist activity of AT1 and its affinity for the AT1 receptor is approximately 1000 times greater than for the AT2 receptor Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that works by increasing the excretion of sodium and water from the body, leading to reduced blood volume and decreased blood pressure.
