Prazosin 5mg ER (extended release) tablet is used with or without other medications to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.Prazosin belongs to a class of medications called alpha blockers. It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels so blood can flow more easily.

Take this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor. Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to use and how often Many patients who have high blood pressure will not notice any symptoms of the condition. In fact, many patients may feel normal. It is very important that you take your medicine exactly as directed and that you keep your appointments with your doctor even if you feel well.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

Dizziness; fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse; sleepiness.

Avoid use of this drug during pregnancy and prescribe an alternative. Evidence has demonstrated fetal abnormalities or risks when used during pregnancy. Evidence and/or expert consensus has demonstrated harmful infant effects when used during breastfeeding.

Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting may occur after you use this medicine, especially when you get up from a lying or sitting position. Getting up slowly may help lessen this problem. If you feel dizzy, lie down so you do not faint. Then sit for a few moments before standing to prevent the dizziness from returning. You may also have dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting if you drink alcohol, stand for a long time, exercise or if the weather is hot. While you are taking this medicine, be careful to limit the amount of alcohol you drink. Drink plenty of fluids if you exercise or sweat more than usual while you are using this medicine. Patient should not drink alcohol while taking this drug. Prazosin may cause some people to become dizzy, drowsy, or less alert than they are normally. Make sure you know how you react to this medicine before you drive, use machines, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are dizzy, drowsy, or are not alert.
