PERMETHRIN LOTION 5 % W/V

Below are the product's comprehensive details, including its indications, administration, storage, side effects, safety advice, references, mechanism of action, and therapeutic uses.

PERMETHRIN LOTION 5% lotion or cream is used to treat scabies infections by destroying the mites which cause scabies. Permethrin 1% lotion is also used to treat head lice infections.

For Scabies Apply the lotion to clean, dry skin. Cover the entire body from neck to toes (including skin folds, under nails, and genital area). In infants and elderly patients, apply to the scalp, hairline, temples, and forehead if advised. Leave on for 8–12 hours (usually overnight), then wash off thoroughly. A second application may be required after 7 days if symptoms persist. General Instructions Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and broken skin. Wash hands after application (unless treating hands).

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep from freezing. Keep out of the reach of children.

Mild burning or stinging sensation Itching or redness Skin dryness or rash Note: Itching may continue for 1–2 weeks after treatment due to allergic reaction to dead mites and does not necessarily indicate treatment failure.

Infants below 2 months (use only if prescribed)

Do not ingest or apply inside the eyes, nose, or mouth. Post-scabies itching may last for several weeks; consult a doctor if new burrows or lesions appear.
