Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively blocks angiotensin II from binding to AT1 receptors. This prevents blood vessel constriction and reduces aldosterone secretion, resulting in vasodilation, decreased sodium and water retention, lower blood pressure, and reduced workload on the heart. It also helps protect the heart and kidneys from long-term damage caused by hypertension.
