Atorvastatin 80mg tablet is indicated to reduce the risk of: Myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, revascularization procedures, and angina in adults with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD) but without clinically evident CHD.
How To Use of Atorvastatin 80 Mg Tablet
Take it at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not break, crush, or chew it. Take this medicine with or without food. Do not drink large amounts of alcohol with atorvastatin. This could cause unwanted effects on the liver.
Storage of Atorvastatin 80 Mg Tablet
Store at a controlled room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C
Side Effects of Atorvastatin 80 Mg Tablet

This will allow your doctor to see if the medicine is working properly to lower your cholesterol and triglyceride levels and to decide if you should continue to take it. Blood tests may be needed to check for unwanted effects. Call your doctor right away if you have dark-colored urine, fever, muscle cramps or spasms, muscle pain or stiffness, or unusual tiredness or weakness. These could be symptoms of a serious muscle problem called rhabdomyolysis, which can cause kidney problems. Using this medicine while you are pregnant can harm your unborn baby.

Mechanism of Atorvastatin 80 Mg Tablet
Atorvastatin calcium selectively and competitively inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, a rate-limiting enzyme that converts 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A to mevalonate, a sterol and cholesterol precursor, Triglycerides and cholesterol are incorporated into very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) in the liver and are released into plasma for distribution to peripheral tissues. Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) are formed from VLDL and are catabolized primarily through the receptor with high affinity for LDL receptor. Atorvastatin reduces plasma cholesterol and lipoprotein concentrations by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase and subsequent hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver and increasing the number of liver receptors for LDL on the cell surface, leading to increased absorption and catabolism of LDL. Atorvastatin reduces LDL production and produces a profound and sustained increase in LDL receptor activity along with a beneficial change in the quality of circulating LDL.
