Introduction :

Ofloxacin 200 Mg & Ornidazole 500 Mg tablet is used to treat certain bacterial infections in many different parts of the body. It may also be used for other problems as determined by your doctor. Ofloxacin belongs to the class of drugs known as fluoroquinolone antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth. However, this medicine will not work for colds, flu, or other virus infections. This medicine is available only with your doctors prescription.

Indication :

This combination of Ofloxacin 200 Mg & Ornidazole 500 Mg tablet is commonly prescribed for the treatment of various bacterial and protozoal infections, including: Bacterial Infections: Ofloxacin and Ornidazole combination is used to treat bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, gastrointestinal infections, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Protozoal Infections: It may also be prescribed for the treatment of protozoal infections such as amoebiasis, giardiasis, and trichomoniasis.

Administration :

The tablets should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water. It is preferable to take the medication with meals to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal side effects. Drink plenty of fluids while you are being treated with this medicine. Drinking extra water will help to prevent some unwanted effects of ofloxacin.

Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, vaginitis, rash, headaches, confusion, restlessness, or insomnia Abdominal pain Dizziness Headache Dry mouth Metallic taste

Safety Advice / Warnings :

Some people who take ofloxacin may become more sensitive to sunlight than they are normally - Stay out of direct sunlight, Wear protective clothing, including a hat and sunglasses. Ofloxacin may cause some people to become dizzy, lightheaded, drowsy, or less alert than they are normally. Make sure you know how you react to this medicine before you drive, use machines, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are dizzy or are not alert. Advise patient to take drug 2 hours before or 2 hours after magnesium or aluminum-containing antacids or products containing calcium, iron, or zinc Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment and for at least 48 hours after discontinuation of therapy, as it may cause disulfiram-like reactions (flushing, nausea, vomiting, headache, palpitations).

Mechanism of Action :

Ofloxacin: It is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that works by inhibiting the bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes, thereby interfering with DNA replication, transcription, and repair, leading to bacterial cell death. Ornidazole: It is a nitroimidazole antibiotic and antiprotozoal agent that exerts its pharmacological effects by disrupting the DNA structure and function of susceptible microorganisms, including bacteria and protozoa, leading to cell death.
