Dextromethorphan suppresses the medullary cough center via sigma receptor agonism and NMDA receptor antagonism. Ambroxol enhances mucociliary clearance by reducing mucus viscosity and stimulating surfactant production. Chlorpheniramine competitively blocks H1 receptors, reducing histamine-mediated symptoms. Phenylephrine acts as a selective α1-adrenergic agonist producing nasal vasoconstriction, while menthol activates TRPM8 receptors producing a cooling and soothing sensation.
