Mechanism of Digoxin 0.25mg Tablet
Digoxin is a cardiac glycoside that inhibits the sodium-potassium ATPase (Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase) pump in cardiac muscle cells. This increases intracellular sodium, which reduces sodium-calcium exchange and leads to increased intracellular calcium. The higher calcium concentration enhances the force of myocardial contraction (positive inotropic effect). Digoxin also increases vagal tone, slowing conduction through the atrioventricular (AV) node and reducing heart rate, making it effective for ventricular rate control in atrial fibrillation.
