Eplerenone is a selective mineralocorticoid (aldosterone) receptor antagonist. This lowers blood volume and blood pressure, reduces cardiac remodeling and fibrosis, and improves survival in patients with heart failure and post-myocardial infarction left ventricular dysfunction.
