Mechanism of Rifaximin 550 Mg Tablet
Rifaximin irreversibly binds to the beta-subunit of bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, inhibiting bacterial RNA synthesis and preventing bacterial growth. In hepatic encephalopathy, it also reduces ammonia-producing intestinal bacteria, thereby lowering ammonia production in the gut. Because it is minimally absorbed, its activity is largely confined to the gastrointestinal tract
