Introduction :

Amoxicillin 250mg and clavulanate 125mg tablet combination is used to treat bacterial infections in many different parts of the body (eg, ear, lungs, sinus, skin, urinary tract). Amoxicillin and clavulanate combination is an antibiotic that belongs to the group of medicines known as penicillins and beta-lactamase inhibitors. It works by killing the bacteria and preventing their growth. However, this medicine will not work for colds, flu, or other virus infections. This medicine is available only with your doctors prescription.

Indication :

Amoxicillin 250mg and clavulanate 125mg tablet is indicated for : Treatment of Respiratory Tract Infections: Amoxicillin/clavulanate is effective against the bacteria and is frequently prescribed for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, including: Sinusitis: Sinusitis is an inflammation or infection of the sinuses, often caused by bacteria. commonly implicated in sinusitis, Bronchitis: Acute bronchitis is an infection of the bronchial tubes, typically caused by viruses or bacteria. . Pneumonia: Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs, commonly caused by bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae. Treatment of Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Amoxicillin/clavulanate is also indicated for the treatment of various skin and soft tissue infections, including: Cellulitis: Cellulitis is a bacterial skin infection characterized by redness, warmth, swelling, and tenderness of the affected area. Abscesses: Abscesses are localized collections of pus caused by bacterial infection.

Administration :

You may take this medicine with or without food. Take this medicine only as directed by your doctor. Instruct patient to take drug within 1 hour of finishing a meal and at approximately the same time every day

Storage :

Store the medication at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight.

Side Effects :

Side effects may include vulvovaginal mycotic infection, nausea, vomiting, and headache

Contraindications :

Available evidence is inconclusive or inadequate for determining fetal risk when used in pregnant women.

Amoxicillin and clavulanate combination may cause diarrhea, and in some cases it can be severe. Birth control pills may not work while you are using this medicine. This medicine may cause serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis

Mechanism of Action :

Amoxicillin: It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the penicillin class. Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell wall disruption and bacterial cell death. Potassium Clavulanate: It is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that helps overcome bacterial resistance to amoxicillin by protecting it from degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by certain bacteria. Potassium clavulanate does not possess antibacterial activity on its own but enhances the activity of amoxicillin against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria.
