OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL 20 MG + METOPROLOL SUCCINATE 50 MG (ER)

Introduction :

Olmesartan 20mg + Metoprolol 50mg ER (extended release) combination tablets are indicated for the treatment of hypertension in adults who require combination therapy to achieve blood pressure control. Olmesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by blocking a substance in the body that causes the blood vessels to tighten. Olmesartan relaxes the blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. A lower blood pressure will increase the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart. Metoprolol is a beta-blocker. It works by affecting the response to nerve impulses in certain parts of the body, like the heart. As a result, the heart beats slower and decreases the blood pressure. When the blood pressure is lowered, the amount of blood and oxygen is increased to the heart.

Indication :

Olmesartan 20mg + Metoprolol 50mg ER (extended release) is primarily prescribed for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults. It is particularly beneficial for individuals whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy or who require combination therapy to achieve target blood pressure levels. By lowering blood pressure, this medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks, strokes, and other complications associated with hypertension.

Mechanism of Action :

Olmesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to constrict, thereby relaxing blood vessels and lowering blood pressure. Metoprolol (ER) is a beta-blocker that works by blocking the effects of certain natural chemicals in the body, such as epinephrine, on the heart and blood vessels. This results in a slowing of the heart rate, reducing the workload on the heart and lowering blood pressure.
